QUADS Content: Session 3, Week 3
Read Genesis 28:10-22.
In v. 10 we saw that Jacob left Beersheba, where his brother was filled with rage. And went towards Haran, where his uncle Laban lives, who will soon deceive him. He was pushed out into the wilderness, all alone. Describe a time this semester where you’ve felt all alone. Or, maybe think of a time in your life when you experienced people against you and what you were doing or what you had done.
In verses 12-13 we read about this dream. There are three components to what he saw. What are the 3 components? What do they reveal about God? How do they encourage you today?
What does the ladder with the angels ascending and descending reveal about God? Look at John 1:43-51. How is Nathanael the opposite of Jacob and what does Jesus promise that he’d see?
What is God giving to Jacob? What did Jacob do to earn it?
The context of God’s message to Jacob was threefold: 1) I am with you. 2) I will not leave you. 3) I will lead you. Read Psalm 23 and Psalm 139. Read Matthew 1:23 and Hebrews 13:5
How does Jacob respond to this dream? What strikes you about his response?
How does this example of God meeting someone in a time of trial and suffering in a “desert” place give the believer encouragement and hope? Does this particularly impact something going on in your life right now?
