Why RUF?

Reformed.

This identifies us with the theological tradition of the Protestant Reformation.  And therefore we seek to emphasize what our forefathers in the faith sought to emphasize, namely, a robust understanding of the gospel – that God loves sinful people enough to send His only Son to live, die and rise in their place.  And therefore, our ministry seeks to unpack, relish in, and live out the implications of the simple gospel message that sinners are “saved by grace alone” because of the work of Jesus Christ.

University.

The college campus is the context in which we will minister.  The university plays an extremely important role in our world.  It is a marketplace of ideas.  And collectively, all of our colleges function as the cultural incubators of our country.  Students from all over the world centralize into one geographic spot.  As exciting as it is, the university is also a scary place.  Philosophies and worldviews in opposition to Christ are regularly propounded from the class lecterns. Students personally wrestle with loneliness, identity, and purpose while being surrounded by temptation and intellectual challenges.  All that to say….the needs are great.

Fellowship.

We are seeking to cultivate a community that captures both vertical and horizontal dimensions.  Vertically, we long to see students reconciled to our Triune God and to enjoy a life of being rooted in and transformed by the gospel of grace. Horizontally, we seek to establish a safe context where people of all types and stripes can come and feel welcomed, to learn how to love and serve one another, and to grow in their spiritual maturity.
